Libro de Poemas was reviewed on the front page of the Madrid daily El Sol by Adolfo Salazar under the heading "A New Poet." Preceded only by Lorca's extremely rare first book, the prose Impresiones y Paisajes, of 1918. ![]() His brother Francisco ("Paquito") helped him to compile this anthology of his best verse from the mass of manuscripts that had accumulated by this time, and Lorca gratefully dedicated this book to him. According to his preface, these lyrics offer "the exact image of my days of adolescence and youth… a faithful mirror of my heart and my spirit." The earliest poems are dated 1915, but most were composed in the period 1918-19, before Lorca had arrived in Madrid.
